Dear Evan Hansen
Evan feels like an outsider. When tragedy strikes, he is thrust into the spotlight, offering him a chance to be seen—for better or worse. His innocent attempt at reinvention causes a viral social media storm and the truth unravels. Dear Evan Hansen is a coming-of-age story that demonstrates the power of human connection and a desire we all have: to belong. Tony and Olivier Award Winner for Best Musical, this profoundly raw and heartfelt story reminds us that we will be found. Audience discretion is advised.

Director's Notes
Dear Evan Hansen initially drew me in because I knew it would challenge me on all fronts. It carries a heavy emotional weight, requires staying truthful and grounded while keeping the story moving seamlessly, and even treats “technology” as an expansive character in its own right. At its core, it is a beautifully human, expertly structured piece of musical theatre. What many people may not realize is that the work of a director begins long before the first rehearsal. Directors start design meetings with the creative team and production staff months in advance, and much of the research and text analysis begins even earlier. When I’m staging a show, I need a solid, specific plan—but I also remain aware and open to the impulses and ideas of everyone I collaborate with, including myself. One of my favorite aspects of the show has been bringing to life the songs that involve the full ensemble. “Waving Through A Window” is an exceptional musical theatre number, and watching it come together with staging, movement, and design elements has been truly exciting. It’s in those moments that the emotional and theatrical scope of the piece fully reveals itself. This story feels important to tell because it gives voice to those who, among other behavioral health struggles, experience anxiety, depression, grief, and the isolation of not feeling seen. It asks us to examine how deep our understanding and compassion can go—and challenges us to expand it. I’m grateful to share this story with you.
