For longtime theatre lovers Todd Tschida and Chelsie Kinney, the stage has always been more than a place to perform–it’s where community and lifelong bonds are made. The pair first crossed paths performing in Hello, Dolly! at Lakewood Theatre Company, and their shared love of the art form has only deepened since.

Chelsie and Todd grew up in Oregon and found theatre early: Chelsie in junior high and Todd in high school. Over the years, they’ve performed and contributed to many productions. Broadway Rose audiences may remember Todd from The Little Mermaid, Les Misérables, Plaid Tidings, and more, while Chelsie lent her talents as a makeup artist on Cats and Nite Club Confidential. Their favorite shows range from classics like Dames at Sea to thought-provoking works like Parade and Floyd Collins.

Their support of Broadway Rose began through volunteer opportunities like ushering, serving on gala committees, and pitching in wherever needed. That hands-on involvement, they say, opened the door to giving back in a larger way. “Donorship and support isn’t just monetary,” they believe. “Time and talent are priceless.”

Now donors themselves, Todd and Chelsie admire Broadway Rose’s resiliency and poise, especially navigating the challenges of the pandemic. They’re also inspired by the example set by longtime supporters whose commitment builds confidence for newer donors. Chelsie, who has worked in nonprofit development, knows firsthand how vital those relationships are.

When not at the theater, the couple enjoys time at the coast, exploring the outdoors, and making music. Still, theatre remains at the heart of their lives. Both dream of tackling iconic roles one day (Chelsie as Gypsy Rose Lee or Mama Rose; Todd as Jean Valjean), but above all, they treasure how theatre draws people together.

“Theatre encourages us to circle around and create community together within the auditorium as the lights dim and the curtain rises,” they reflect. “It brings us together to tell stories in ways we don’t often get to anymore.”

Todd and Chelsie’s dedication reminds us that theatre thrives not only because of the stories on stage, but also because of the community that gathers to support it. Thank you, Todd and Chelsie, for helping us keep the magic of theatre alive.
