TIGARD THEATRE COMPANY SURVIVES AND THRIVES, WITH YOUR HELP!
Stories are circling in the news about arts organizations struggling: declining attendance, loss of funding, and rising costs. So, how does Broadway Rose Theatre Company continue to thrive?
Since 1992 Broadway Rose, beloved by patrons and artists alike, has delivered musical theatre productions that delight and transform audiences. Subscriptions and attendance continue to increase, and the artistic quality of shows consistently impresses. But this kind of art form comes at a cost—literally.
“Every year we work hard to project accurate budgets for our productions and our company as a whole, but the target keeps moving,” says Producing Artistic Director Sharon Maroney, who founded the company 35 years ago with her husband, Managing Director Dan Murphy. She notes that expenses–from lumber and electricity to insurance–are rising faster than ticket revenue alone can sustain.
These challenges, though significant, don’t deter Broadway Rose from its mission: to create unparalleled musical theatre experiences that invigorate audiences and enrich our communities. So, what’s the secret ingredient that helps this theatre keep moving forward?
Maroney points to its strong base of donors. As a nonprofit professional theatre company, Broadway Rose’s 35 years of growth and success is rooted in a wide foundation of charitable support. “We have wonderfully dedicated supporters that believe in our mission,” says Maroney. “Their investment demonstrates confidence in both the art and in the future of the company. Our donors are why we are successful today.”
And with that, Maroney makes a simple ask of her audience: “Please consider a generous donation to Broadway Rose to help us continue surpassing audiences’ expectations. You are the reason we are thriving and the theatre is touching people’s lives.”
BROADWAY ROSE THEATRE IS NAMED BUSINESS OF THE YEAR!
Broadway Rose Theatre Company has been named Business of the Year in the Best of Tigard and Tualatin Awards, presented by The Times. Nearly 30,000 ballots were cast by local readers in this year’s awards program.
The honor comes as Broadway Rose celebrates its 35th anniversary season. Founded in 1992 by Sharon Maroney and Dan Murphy, the company launched its inaugural season with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Over the past three decades, Broadway Rose has evolved from a summer stock theatre into a year-round producing company. Along the way, the organization completed two major capital campaigns—first transforming a former school cafeteria into a performing arts venue, and later expanding the space to accommodate growing productions, audiences, and staff.
Maroney and Murphy said they remain inspired by the support of the community and credited the achievement to the artists, volunteers, staff, donors, and patrons who have helped sustain the company over the years.
