Welcome to Regards from Broadway Rose, your peek behind-the-curtain at all that’s happening at your favorite musical theatre company!

We’re already a quarter of the way through our 35th season, and our first two productions, In Clay and Dear Evan Hansen, have surpassed expectations! Though very different in style, both tell compelling stories of complicated people searching for belonging–and we’ve been thrilled to see our audiences’ responses and connection to the work.

This spring also brought the opportunity to host the National Alliance of Musical Theatre’s annual conference, welcoming more than 80 theatre representatives from across the country to experience what makes Broadway Rose and Washington County so special. We were honored to welcome these art leaders into our home.

Now, we look ahead to our Gala at the end of April—a joyful celebration of our 35th anniversary and a vital fundraiser for the theatre. Hosted by our managing director, co-founder, and “chief bottle washer” Dan Murphy, it’s a weekend you won’t want to miss.

You are a critical part of this community. I hope the stories in this newsletter remind you of the impact you make each time you buy a ticket or make a gift to the arts.

Thank you for your continued applause and support!

As Broadway Rose Theatre Company celebrates decades of musical theatre magic, Founding Managing Director Dan Murphy takes a reflective look back before his retirement at the end of this year. In this three-part series, Dan revisits the company’s origins—before stages were built, before audiences filled the seats, and before Broadway Rose became a cornerstone of the Tigard community.

Ryan Burton is one of the out-of-town artists joining Broadway Rose for this season’s production of Dear Evan Hansen, stepping into the title role of Evan in the emotionally powerful musical. Between rehearsals and exploring the Pacific Northwest, I sat down with Ryan to ask him about his journey to Broadway Rose, what it’s like bringing this story to life, and how he’s navigating the experience both on and off the stage.

On a summer day during Broadway Rose’s very first season, Johanna Jansen sat in the audience to watch Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Her son was one of the Tigard High School interns working on the production. She didn’t know it at the time, but that afternoon would mark the beginning of a relationship that has now spanned more than three decades.
